Good Sign for Goodyear Economic Development

Increased work load means more resources dedicated to city’s highest priority

Effective June 2, Romina Khananisho – Goodyear’s government relations manager – will be temporarily reassigned to lead the city’s economic development efforts, along with Kim Bradford, assistant to the city manager.

Khananisho will oversee the Economic Development Division through the remainder of the year while city officials evaluate the needs of the division and the business community.

City Manager Brian Dalke made the announcement to employees on Thursday, May 8. "We've seen increased activity from small businesses wanting to locate in Goodyear, large companies expanding, and a heightened interest from national site selectors," said Dalke. "To ensure all aspects of the department have adequate support, I'm committing additional resources to help out in the interim."

Khananisho currently manages four divisions within the city manager's office - Communications, Neighborhood Services, Mayor and Council office, and Grants - all of whom will report to other management staff during this period.

Sheri Wakefield-Saenz, development services director, will continue to focus on major citywide initiatives that include the General/Parks/Transit master plans, redevelopment, design guidelines, land use planning, streamlined permitting, code compliance and building safety.

Economic development is a high priority for the mayor and City Council. They feel bringing quality jobs, higher education, retail and entertainment are all important to the future of Goodyear.
